3 WRONG Ways of Curing Acne

By December 2, 2013No Comments

And believe me, your view of how “trustable” dermatologists change when a famous skin doctor (your friend recommended) has been injecting a magical formula into your skin to make large pimples go away and you find out months later after using it (and also $75 per shot) that it was steroids!

And that was just one of the many stories I have.

I know why you’re here. I’ve been down this road before and REALLY have suffered from acne. In the 10 + years that I’ve gone through the dermatologist visits, the antibiotics, the creams, the laser procedures, the weird diets, I’ve learned a lot of important lessons. Here are 3 valuable things that I’ve learned.

Wrong Way #1: We don’t understand acne

Sure, you’re here, reading about acne and trying to find out more information about it. You’re on the right track, but most people aren’t. And up until a certain point, you probably weren’t trying to really understand why this is happening either.

We aren’t trying to understand why we break out, we aren’t trying to figure out why zits are coming out of your face everyday. At the very most, we make a very lame “attempt” at learning about it.

And this is a problem because most of us, all we care about, is this …

GET IT OFF MY FACE!

And if we had an simple, easy approach that really worked, then it wouldn’t be a problem. We could just “get it off your face.”

But that’s the problem. There’s so much random information out there (which most don’t really work and just want your money) that most of us are then sent on a wild goose chase to figure out how to clear our acne.

We spend years and years trying to find a cure. Some of us listen to what our friends recommend, others of us listen to our parents who know very little about acne, and some of us turn to dermatologists, medication, and seek professional help.

Bad idea.

You probably know by now that there is NO STRAIGHT FORWARD, SIMPLE ANSWER to curing acne. Well, at least, there is no one out there being honest when it comes to acne. And that’s why you have to learn about it yourself.

We need to truly ask ourselves, “Are you ready to REALLY learn about why acne happens so you can finally conquer this [annoying] beast?”

And as the Buddhist proverb goes: when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

Which brings me to my next point …

Wrong Way #2: We aren’t asking the right people

Okay, let’s just say that you’ve decided you’re ready. Now it’s time for that teacher …

Hello? Anybody out there?

Anybody out there that can REALLY cure my acne?

Or are you guys all trying to make a buck off me?

Most of us have people around us that we trust. We trust our friends, we trust our mom and dad, we trust our dermatologist.

But have we ever thought about what we trust about them?

Our friends have our backs, they will be loyal to us and are looking out for us.

Our family loves us and want the best for us.

The dermatologist, skin doctor, we trust because he’s licensed, knowledgeable, and knows what he’s doing …

And it’s great that we trust them, but unfortunately sometimes that isn’t enough.

In the same way, if you had a really big test coming up in physics, would you take your best friend (whom you trust) if they knew nothing about physics?

Or would you much rather trust someone who is a physics genius and knows what they’re talking about?

Would you trust your parents to give you advice about dating if they fight all the time and now they’re divorced? Or would you trust the advice of someone who has been happily married for 40 years and is STILL married?

Would you trust your overweight friend when it comes to tips on losing weight and getting in shape? Or would you trust a personal trainer who, you can tell, is definitely in shape and has the body type that you aspire to have?

My point here is this, your friends and family love you, but don’t trust them when it comes to how to cure your acne.

They don’t know what they’re talking about.

So that leaves you to trust dermatologists or AKA the skin doctors.

I would say, also a BAD IDEA.

The dermatologists know a lot about skin. They know a lot about treating acne. I’m not saying that they don’t. But what they “know” won’t cure you. I repeat.

What dermatologists know about acne, will not cure your acne.

This is because they are trained in the area of Western medicine which concentrates on treatment after the fact, it does not prevent, it only treats the infected area and does not look at the body as a whole.

Dermatologists can be great if you want to remove a mole.

But they will not be great if you want to prevent a mole from happening in the first place.

Your mole will grow back. Your acne will come back. And the dermatologist will be there to help you deal with it and lessen the irritability. But he will not be able to help you cure acne and stop it from ever coming back.

If you want to read more about how I discovered that dermatologists were lying to me, read this.

Just like any business advice, health advice, dating advice, you look to the people who have done what YOU WANT TO GET DONE and you ask them what they did.

If you wanted to start a business and sell bikes, who should you go to: a successful candy store or a successful bike store?

If you wanted to date the a white woman and you’re an Asian man, who should you go to: your white friend who dates Asian women or your Asian friend who dates white women?

If you wanted to lose weight and get in shape, who should you ask for advice: your overweight friend who has a lot of knowledge but somehow is still out of shape or you in shape friend who actually lives what he preaches?

I think you get my point …

Whether you pick me or someone else, make sure you FIND SOMEONE who has done what YOU’RE LOOKING FOR and FOLLOW THEM (in not just acne, but anything)!

Wrong Way #3: We’re looking for instant cures

This is the problem with today’s society. But it’s not our fault, we’ve been trained to look for instant gratification.

Want food? Fast food drive thru. Minutes.

Want to connect with a friend? Text or Facebook (at the time of writing this article, who knows, it might soon be telepathy.) Seconds.

Want to be skinny? Liposuction. Weeks.

Want muscles? Protein powder. Months.

Want answers? Internet. Seconds.

We are a society, especially in America, that strives on instant gratification. In fact, how ridiculous would this sound?

Want food? Go plant it, grow it, harvest it, wash it, cook it. This would take months

Want to connect with a friend? Walk over to their house and go see them. This would take hours.

Want to be skinny? Learn about health, completely change your diet, and work out. This would take months.

Want muscles? Eat reasonable amounts of protein with overwhelming your kidneys, exercise in moderation, stay consistent until you see results. This would take months.

Want answers? Read several books, go to school for several years. This would take years.

Want a cure for acne?

We’re taught to just use this cream, take this pill, or use this face wash and acne will instantly go away.

Have a disease?

Just take this pill and it’ll go away.

But does it ever really go away?

Does acne really ever disappear when you just “take a pill?”

No, it doesn’t.

Because acne is a SIDE EFFECT.

Acne is not the core cause of the problem. It is a problem that has manifested itself on your skin. For some people it’s hair loss, for some it’s gaining weight, for some it’s back acne, for some it’s rosacea, for some it’s eczema.

In any way, it’s all related back to inflammation which can be traced back to a much deeper problem than your skin. And inflammation is not something that can be instantly gratified and solved with a pill.

That is why all these acne solutions don’t ever really cure your acne. They just temporarily hold back the side effect … until it gets to be too big of a problem.

Then you change facial cleansers, you change antibiotics and creams that the dermatologist gives you. A few months later, that doesn’t work either.

So you try ProActiv, that works for a couple years, then it stops working too.

But now your acne is worse than ever and you STILL have acne when all your friends don’t.

What is going on?

It’s because you were looking for that shortcut, that instant gratification answer, and when it comes to acne, that just leads to you getting a bigger pimple on the tip of your nose, in the middle of your forehead, more zits around your jawline and chin.

More breakouts on your back and on your chest.

Because to really cure acne, to truly conquer it, you have to cure it from the inside.

No more instant gratification.
