Does Smoking Cause Acne?

By July 21, 2010One Comment

No. Plain and simple, smoking does not CAUSE Acne.

But. BUT. BUT!!! =)

It CAN aggravate acne… if you already have acne.

I’m about to tell you secrets about smoking and acne that NO ONE has ever told you before.

Chances are, if you’re reading this, you probably are a smoker and have acne.  Why else would you be reading an article titled, “Does Smoking Cause Acne?”  Maybe you’re just curious or maybe you know someone who smokes, either way, you’re here so let me tell you a little bit about how smoking and acne are related.

What does smoking do?

Smoking ultimately deteriorates the body by inducing cancerous effects on the lungs.  But we’re not here to talk about the D.A.R.E. program and lung cancer are we?  You’ve probably heard a countless number of times about that kind of stuff already.  Why beat a dead horse?  So I’m not going to tell you not to smoke because it could cause lung cancer.  You probably already know about that.

But can smoking cause acne?

IS THIS YOUR FIRST TIME TO HOW TO CLEAR YOUR ACNE?

Having suffered from acne for more than 10 years and performed many years of research on myself to the point of finally permanently curing my acne, I’ll tell you a bit about what I’ve learned.

My name is Ray Wang and I’ve helped hundreds of people cure their acne.  You can read more about me HERE.

SMOKING DOES NOT CAUSE ACNE BUT…!

If you don’t have acne, smoking cannot technically cause you to suddenly have acne.  It’s the same way with [intlink id=”103″ type=”post”]acne and junk food[/intlink] or [intlink id=”858″ type=”post”]whether or not chocolate causes acne[/intlink]?  That’s why a lot people think that food does not cause acne.  That’s right, but food is directly correlated with acne IF you have it.

So in other words, smoking won’t cause you to suddenly have acne if you don’t have an acne problem.  That being said, if you DO have an acne problem then you may want to stay away from cigarettes or anything else that may cause irreversible damage to your organs.

SMOKING DOES AGGRAVATE ACNE IF YOU…

Your body is connected in many ways.  The heart is connected to your immune system, your immune system is connected to your hormones, your hormones are connected to your lungs, I could go on and on.  And I don’t mean just physically connected either.  The body is not composed of separate units working independently of one another.  The body works synergistically as a whole.

So when you smoke and put oxidative and inflammatory stress on your lungs, you can get that you’re affecting the entire process of the body.  This in turn puts more stress on your system and will ultimately lead to less efficient regulation of the skin.

THOSE TOXINS YOU SMOKE HAVE TO GO SOMEWHERE

The primary channels of elimination in the body are generally through the urinary and excretory tract.  Basically, peeing and pooing.  But sometimes the body gets clogged and has to resort to other channels of elimination because the primary channels may be overwhelmed or there may be something inhibiting function (e.g. smoking and damaging various parts of the body).

By the way, I hope you do know that cancerous cells are migratory, right?  Meaning that just because you have lung cancer doesn’t mean it’s just going to stay in your lungs?  It can move to other parts of your body and then you’re screwed?  Just a thought…

When your lungs power your body, and cigarettes damage the part of your body that brings oxygen in, who knows the potential effects it could possibly cause in the other parts of the body.  What I’m saying is that it’s very possible that various parts of your body’s processes could be compromised.  And when your primary channels of elimination have too much to deal with the body will try to eliminate excess toxins through your secondary channels of elimination: your lungs and your SKIN.

So that’s important to remember.  When the body becomes overwhelmed and can’t get rid of toxins fast enough, it will do whatever it can to stay alive, even if you’re trying to kill it with nicotine and cigarettes.  So it will push these excess toxins out through your lungs and through the PORES of your skin to keep itself clean.

What’s the effect of that?

You might notice it if your body is not freaking out yet.  But chances are if you already have an acne problem, your body is already struggling with problems at the pores of your skin and you DO NOT want to give it additional stress.

SO WHAT AM I SAYING ABOUT CIGARETTES?

In a nutshell, if you don’t have acne, you probably have nothing to worry about when it comes to breaking out with cigarettes: just cancer =).

If you DO NOT have acne, you’re not going to suddenly have an outbreak of acne just because you smoked cigarettes.  That being said, any kind of oxidative stress or inflammatory ramifications that smoking may bring in the long term, who knows what kind of damage you’re doing to your body.

You can’t expect to pour little bits of tobacco and nicotine on a flower everyday and expect to look just as beautiful as another flower without tobacco and nicotine can you?  It’s a pretty simple question.

And if you DO have acne, you need to be careful with anything that may put unnecessary stress on your system. And what’s especially important is your diet.  In fact, eating right and getting proper nutrients can and WILL clear your acne.
